On their mission to make the Internet a safer place, Google decided to take the next significant step. From January 2017 onwards, Google will give websites that use a SSL certificate more significance. This change does not represent a completely new feature, it has been common practise for years to show if a website is secure. But, with the release of Chrome 53, Google will make the notice much more prominent and visible.
For Internet users it means that they will receive a notification whenever they are about to open a website that is not secured by a SSL certificate. For website owners this change might mean, that their bounce rate will increase as a result. Or in other words, website owners might lose traffic.
It is likely that many Internet users will follow Google’s warning and leave or not open the website in the first place.
Thankfully you can avoid this problem quite easily, by simply adding a SSL certificate to your website. Not only will you prevent being penalised by Google for not using an SSL, you might actually see the opposite – your website will likely get ranked higher than your competitors without SSL.
Have a look at our SSL certificate options, you can get our entry level Alpha SSL certificate for as low as $20 /yr. We are more than happy to assist you with the setup free of charge. Simply get in touch with us and let us know.
Let’s make the Internet great …, I mean secure, again.
