What is the DNS (Domain Name System)?

What is the DNS?

Back to Help

The DNS translates IP addresses into domain names and vice versa and is therefore the backbone of the Internet. In other words, when a user types “moreweb.nz” into their browser, the DNS tells the browser that the website is located on a server with IP address 188.166.239.187. So instead of remembering the full IP address, users only need to remember the domain name.
