What is a nameserver?

Back to Help

Name servers play an essential role by storing important technical functions and amongst other tasks, works as the address book for the web. One of their main tasks is to link domain names to IP addresses. It’s easier for us to remember a domain name than it is to remember a 12-digit IP address.

For example, when a user types “moreweb.nz” into their browser, the name server knows that the content of our website is located on our server with IP address “188.166.239.1872” and forwards the user to it.
