What is ICANN?

Back to Help

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers was created by the US government as a non-profit organisation with the purpose of overseeing the Internet. ICANN functions as the highest Internet regulating authority and its job is, amongst other things, to coordinate and manage the Domain Name System and mentor, guide and control the organisations that manage the generic domain extensions.

As such ICANN cooperates very closely with many local and global organisations and offers with its conferences that are held several times a year, a global platform for all Internet companies to communicate and discuss concerns regarding the domain name and Internet industry. See the official ICANN website.
