Hey Murray here, congratulations on taking the first step to bringing your presence online!
I know it can be daunting but it’s not as difficult as you might think, so before we get started, I want to give you a bit of a guide through the process of creating a website.
There are three main components:

Domain name

The domain name is the basic building block for all online services and absolutely essential.

Email address

The email address is the main communication medium online and based on your domain name.

Web hosting

The web hosting is where your website lives and is added and attached to your domain name.

Everything starts with a domain name

Now that you know what is needed, let's get started. The first step is to register your domain name.
We recommend all customers to do that themselves. For one because it is fun! But also because it provides us with details needed for your website.
In case you don't feel confident enough for this first step, get in touch with us and we can help you out. Otherwise click here to check if your preferred domain name is still available.

Setup your email

Now that your domain name has been registered you can redeem your included email address.
There is nothing wrong with using a free email service like Gmail, Yahoo or Hotmail but a personal mailbox matching your company’s name looks more professional and trustworthy. It helps with the recognition of your brand and leaves a good impression with partners and customers.

So what’s next?

Now that your domain name has been registered and your email address been set up, the next step is to setup your website.
There are three key components to creating a website, the domain name, the web hosting and the website platform (e.g. Wordpress). Without all 3 parts you will not have a functioning website. There are some other things to consider but we will get to that shortly.
Firstly let's decide on the kind of website you are hoping to have, here are your options:

Option 1

Redirect to Social

Maybe you don’t want a website or perhaps you are not quite ready for one but you want to secure your domain name. While you are deciding what to do we can make sure anyone searching that domain will just go directly to a nominated social media account e.g. your business Facebook page.

Option 2

Website

Do it yourself

You already know what you want and how to achieve it in which case you can register your domain and select your preferred hosting package. Business Bundle FAQ

Buying a domain name or registering a domain name is actually quite simply. You enter the preferred name or term into our domain search and check its availability. If the chosen domain name is still available, you select it and follow the checkout process.

To register a domain name, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to your Moreweb account..
  2. Click on REGISTER A DOMAIN in the top menu.
  3. Enter your domain in the search box and click on SEARCH.
  4. Add the domain name you want into the cart by clicking on the green cart icon.
  5. Now click on CONFIGURE YOUR ORDER.
  6. Here you can click on CHANGE SETTINGS and select or enter the domain owner details, remember, this is very important!
  7. If you already know what you want to do with your domain name, you can change the Nameserver and Zone Profile information. Please note that domain updates under some extensions are related with costs. We recommend to use your preferred nameservers during the registration.
  8. Once finished with the settings, click on NEXT STEP.
  9. You can add additional services or simply click on REVIEW & PAYMENT.
    • Select WordPress if you don't want to be involved in the techincal aspects and start setting up your website directly. WordPress includes a SSL certificate, no need to add it.
    • Use Web Hosting if you want server access and the option to chose from a list of website and shop solutions. We recommend adding a SSL certificate to secure you site.
    • Each domain name comes with a free email address. If you need only one email address, you don't need to add it here. You can claim it after the domain name has been registered.
    • SSL Certificates, recommended for Web Hosting. Our WordPress product already includes one.
  10. Review the order and increase the registration period if needed. (The domain registration period plays a minor role in Googles ranking criteria, in other words, buying your domain for multiple years could help your ranking).
  11. Accept the terms and conditions and click on PLACE ORDER.
  12. Congratulations! You will soon own your first domain name.

Moreweb offers one free email address with every domain name that is registered with us. To activate your free mailbox, you can follow these simple steps:

  7. Leave the default MX record settings if you want to use our free DNS infrastructure. The system will then also fill out all technical settings automatically.
  8. Enter and confirm your password and click on ACTIVATE.
  9. Done. You will receive an email that your mailbox has been setup and is ready for use. You will find it in your account under PRODUCTS > EMAIL.

Our Managed WordPress solution takes care of all the hosting and server aspects, leaving you with full access to your ready to use WordPress account. We would recommend this to beginners and users who don’t want to get involved in the technical stuff. WordPress already includes a SSL certificate.
If you are an experienced user and prefer to look after the web hosting yourself, you can install and manage WordPress or other shop and website solutions using our Shared Web Hosting product.
In short, our Managed WordPress solution is ideal for users who don’t want to deal with the technical side of things. If you are comfortable managing hosting control panels and databases, our shared webhosting is the way to go. We recommend adding a SSL certificate to secure you site.

URL forwarding allows you to redirect your domain to another website or page. To forward your domain name to a different address or website, follow the below instructions.

  1. Log in to your account and go to DOMAIN NAMES.
  2. Move your cursor over the concerned domain and click MANAGE.
  3. Click on MANAGE ZONE on the left side.
  4. You need to create two URL forwarding rules.
  5. Click on NEW RECORD in the panel below.
  6. Select URL FORWARDING, enter “@” into the Host field and the destination address into the Forward To field.
  7. Select the redirect type and click SUBMIT.
    • Framed-forwarding:Means that you will see still the initial domain name in the browser window, but the website and content from the forwarded domain name. For example, if you type “moreweb.nz” into your browser, you would get the “moreweb.nz” website in the browser window (in the FRAME), but the URL remains the same. This one is a good choice for your social page redirect.
    • Permanent 301 redirect:If you use a permanent 301 redirect, any person opening the domain name will be forwarded to the destination domain. Other than with the frame forwarding, the initial domain in the browser search will change into the destination domain name. For example, if you type “moreweb.net” into your browser, you will be redirected to “moreweb.nz” and “moreweb.nz” will also be shown in the browser field. Using a permanent 301 also tells the search engines that the content of the forwarded domain name can be found permanently at the destination website.
    • Temporary 302 redirect:The temporary 302 redirect works basically just like the permanent 301 redirect, with the difference that the search engines are being informed that this is just a temporary redirect. This feature is useful when for example, the main website is under construction or under longer maintenance. The users can be forwarded to a temporary website that contains the information they were looking for. Using this redirect, does therefore not change the index information at the search engines.
  8. Click on NEW RECORD in the panel below.
  9. Select again URL FORWARDING and this time enter “www” into the Host field and the destination address into the Forward To field. Select the redirect type and SUBMIT.
  10. Confirm by clicking on SAVE ZONE.

Please note that DNS changes take up to 24 hours to be propagated throughout the Internet.
